Polygons, a uniquely designed 4-in-1 measuring spoon, launched a Kickstarter campaign on the 11st October for their innovative flat spoons. Within an hour of launch the creators of the spoons reached their $10,000 goal and by the end of the day a staggering $100,000 had been raised.
The campaign describes the Polygons as ‘the origami-like measuring spoon that lays flat and folds to 4 different sizes to fit your cooking and baking needs’. The spoons come in two different sizes, teaspoon and tablespoon, and given the success of the campaign the design team are considering a larger cup-sized version.
Polygons Design, founded by Rahul Agarwal, a multiple International award winning designer, is behind the ingenious spoon design. In its simplest form, the spoon is a single flat piece of polypropylene plastic with a concealed ridge running down the middle.
The device has been designed to replace multiple measuring tools in the kitchen, where small volumes of fluids or ingredients need to be measured. The volume of the spoon is set based on the way the spoon is picked up.
The simplistic design of the polygons spoon includes 4 major benefits:
- Easy cleaning: flattens out for a quick wipe, saving resources (i.e. water, soap, time, energy)
- Easy storage: flattening enables minimal footprint, maximum versatility
- No wastage: thick liquids which don’t pour out completely can be wiped against the edge of a bottle/utensil conveniently
- Single material: made of a single piece of polypropylene with live hinges, it is cost and resource effective and thus more accessible
The Kickstarter campaign runs until Sun, Nov 20 2016 4:57 PM GMT.
