The scale of the food waste crisis is so enormous, it can sometimes be difficult to know how to play your part in the solution. Luckily, Too Good To Go are here to point us in the right direction.
The Copenhagen-based start-up has developed an app which connects food traders with food waste warriors. It enables perfectly edible excess food to be ‘rescued’ at the end of a trading day. And sold at a fraction of the typical price!
It’s a deal that suits everyone. It allows business owners to recuperate earnings and avoid food waste-related losses. App users can bag themselves a tasty meal without breaking the bank in the process.
The positive impact on the environment is perhaps the most notable benefit. Reducing food waste reduces CO2 emissions and protecting the planet is what Too Good To Go are all about.
Sign Me Up!
Signing up is simple. Download the app and create an account. Then you’ll be able to view the restaurants and cafes in your area that are partnered with Too Good To Go. A message will show if anyone has food they need rescuing. If something takes your fancy, pay through the app and collect your food during a designated time period.
It works on a ‘magic bag’ system, so you won’t know exactly what food you’re getting until you pick it up. But you can use a range of filters on the app to tailor your order to your preferences.
Most prices range from around £2.50 to £5. After scrolling through their Instagram, it seems that most food outlets are pretty generous, so there are plenty of bargains to be had.
We recently spoke to Too Good To Go co-founder Jamie Crummie for our sister podcast, Good Foodies. Listen to what he has to say about the level of food waste in the UK, sign up to Too Good To Go and become a local food waste warrior!
