Streatham Common Community Garden

Hidden Gem Streatham Common Community Garden

The Streatham Common Community Garden is a hub of positivity and a fantastic example of urban sustainability.

The residents of Lambeth are certainly intent on preserving Streatham Common’s rich history. Its award-winning Rookery, a lovingly preserved ornamental garden and woodland area, dates back to 1786 and was opened to the public in 1913.

Find your way to the black wooden gate at the bottom of the garden and you’ll discover the somewhat secluded and wonderfully charming Streatham Common Community Garden. Having fallen into disrepair after 200 years of use, the revamped garden is the remarkable product of hard work and tender loving care from passionate, community-spirited volunteers.

Learn to Garden

Essentially a food growing project, the community garden is a place to grow, harvest, learn and enjoy together, no matter your level of gardening experience. Community gardening sessions take place every Wednesday and Sunday from 12-4pm, where volunteers help dig, sow, maintain and harvest crops.

You can also take part in training sessions on topics like organic gardening, food growing and composting. You can even sign up for a learner plot where you’ll develop your gardening skills to grow your own food. Seeds, compost and garden tools are provided and the best part is, you get to take home your harvest!

Bug Hotel

The garden is perfect for families. Kids are encouraged to learn and join in with growing. A Mini Beast Hunts take place regularly, giving little ones the opportunity to explore the wildlife. They will especially love the Bug Hotel!
